The Hauxeda publishes two forms of obituaries: short death notices and long-form obituaries. Both are free to read, with no subscription required.

We provide a public service by publishing free short death notices for Greene County, Christian County, and other areas in southwest Missouri. We are the only repository in southwest Missouri for all such notices.

We also publish long-form obituaries for a flat rate of $75. Publishing these long-form obituaries through other local media can cost hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars; we provide this low rate also as part of our public service mission. We host these obituaries ourselves, rather than on a third-party website, and will do so in perpetuity.

Both death notices and full obituaries are submitted from the funeral home handling the arrangements.

Free death notices may consist of the deceased’s full name, age at time of death, primary city of residency, employment, surviving family and the funeral home handling arrangements. Free death notices must be 100 words or fewer.

Full obituaries may be longer and provide contextual details about the deceased's life. While there is no restriction on total word count, we recommend keeping full obituaries under 1,000 words. Please submit a photo with the obituary. With exceptions for holidays and weekends, full obituaries submitted by 11 a.m. weekdays will be published by 6 p.m. the same day. Those submitted after that deadline will be published by 10 a.m. the following weekday.

To submit a death notice or a full obituary, email DeathNotices@hauxeda.com. Include the phrase “Death notice” or “Full obituary” and the name of the deceased in the subject line.
