Joseph R. Doyle, 100 of Springfield, died on Tuesday, June 25, 2022.

Joe served in the U.S. Army from February 1943 to April 1946. He went overseas as a combat rifleman and was in three European campaigns in 1944 and 1945 during the coldest winter Germany ever had. He returned home in April 1946. He never went hunting or camping for the rest of his life. Joe had some trouble fitting back into civilian life. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for eight years.

He married Elizabeth Anne Bries on March 26, 1951. She was an Army nurse who served 22 months in France and England during World War II. This union produced five wonderful children: Mary Reuterfors, Springfield; John (Pam) of San Antonio, Tex.; Daniel (Josephine), University City, Mo.; Michael (Deborah), Des Peres, Mo.; and Patrick (Mayeth), Dallas, Tex.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Church, 2200 W Republic Road, followed by a 2 p.m. funeral mass and burial with military honors in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road.

Services are entrusted to Walnutlawn Funeral Home.
