A single piece of paper hung on the door of 5 Spice China Grill quietly ended the 16-year run of the restaurant.
5 Spice, located at 2058 S. Glenstone Ave., shuttered business on April 13, notifying customers by posting a flier on its main door. There was no explanation of why 5 Spice was closing on the flier.
“After 16 years of serving you at 5 Spice China Grill, we announce with heavy hearts that our store's last day of operation was Saturday, April 13th,” the company said in the flier. “Thank you for your support of our small business.”

5 Spice was owned by Johnny and Johnson Tan. The brothers also own Ocean Zen Restaurant, located at 4117 S. National Ave, according to the company website.
The Tan Brothers did not respond to a multiple requests for comment April 17 and 18.
5 Spice's website, along with its social media pages, were shut down as of April 18. The phone number associated with the restaurant has been disconnected.
The 2,740-square-foot restaurant is owned by Tan Brothers, LLC, according to the Greene County Assessor's Office records. The building had a total appraised value of $360,200. Tan Brothers, LLC, is registered to Chih K. Tan, according to Missouri Secretary of State's Office records.
