The City of Springfield’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, has been compromised, according to a news release.
Cora Scott, director of Public Information and Civic Engagement, encourages the account’s 18,000-plus followers to unfollow the city on X and check out the city’s Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Nextdoor accounts, all of which the city has taken steps to secure.
The city will work to recover the X account but has no plans to create a new one, according to the release. The last post to the account was made on May 4. The city lost access to the account on May 7.
In addition to following its other social media accounts, Scott urges residents interested in keeping up with the city to subscribe to email and/or text notifications and the SGF Neighborhood News publication, check out the city calendar and website, and watch meetings on CityView.
