Former City Councilwoman Angela Romine will square off in the Aug. 2 GOP primary against Lincoln Hough, incumbent state senator, former state representative and Greene County commissioner.
The starter's pistol fired at 5 p.m. to start the 2022 race for the Nov. 8 general election in Missouri.
Greene County's two Democrat state representatives will have Republican challengers, while in four local statehouse races there will not be a Democrat option.
Rep. Crystal Quade, the Democrat House minority leader, has two Republicans seeking to unseat her and Rep. Betsy Fogle will be challenged by A.J. Exner, who waited until Tuesday, the final day, to file to run.
Fogle narrowly won the seat in 2020. She beat incumbent Republican Rep. Steve Helms by 76 votes. It was the only House seat in Missouri to flip from one party to the other that year.

Republicans:
Angela Romine, Springfield. Former Zone 1 member of the Springfield City Council. She resigned from the council on Feb . 22.
Lincoln Hough, Springfield. Incumbent. He is a former state representative and a former Greene County commissioner. He owns and operates a cattle ranch.
Democrat:
Raymond Lampert, Springfield. He is an attorney focused on employment law.
State Senate District 20
Republicans:
Curtis Trent, Springfield. He is an attorney who has represented southwest Springfield and Battlefield in the House since 2016. He has left that seat to run for the Senate.
Brian Gelner, Springfield. He is an executive at the Springfield beer distribution company Heart of America Beverage.

Democrat: Betsy Fogle, of Springfield. Incumbent. She was elected in 2020. Prior to that, she spent her career in public health.
