The first-ever Ozarks Film Summit and Filmmaker's Showcase is set to take the Springfield Soundstage June 20.
Ozarks Film Foundry, a nonprofit aimed at developing professional cinema arts and film production in southwest Missouri, will host the inaugural film summit at Springfield Soundstage, located at 854 Drury Lane, according to a company press release. The event starts at 4 p.m. and includes a leadership summit, social summit, speaker program and a showcase of over an hour of recently made films by Ozarks filmmakers.
“This summit gathers under one roof all persons and companies who currently work with, or might want to work with producers of motion picture, television, or new media in the Ozarks,” The Film Foundry said in the press release. “The event is designed to provide area leaders, creators, and businesses with an opportunity to form new and enduring relationships and partnerships.”
The speakers program at the summit starts at 6:30 p.m. and will include Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon, Steve Spaz Williams, an Oscar Nominee known for his work on “Jurassic Park” and “Mask,” and Gina Goff, a movie producer making a film this summer. At 7 p.m., the Filmmakers Showcase will begin.
The Ozarks Film Summit and Filmmaker's Showcase is open to anyone who wants to be part of the film and television industry in the Ozarks, according to the release. An RSVP is requested to info@ozarksfilmfoundry.org.
Ozarks Film Foundry is taking the steps to lay the groundwork for a film industry to bloom in southwest Missouri, including a film incubator and production lab, filmmaking classes and the possibility of becoming an accredited film commission in order to bring cinema resources to the region.
During the speaker program, Dixon, along with the Missouri Film Office, will make an announcement on the formation of the Ozarks Film Commission, according to the press release. Speakers will also update attendees on the Missouri film production incentive that was reintroduced last year.
