The weekend death of a Springfield 16-year-old is being investigated as a homicide.

Davondre Thompson-Baugher, of Springfield, died Sunday as a result of injuries he suffered on June 21, according to a press release from the Springfield Police Department.

Police responded at 11:37 a.m. June 21, to a report of a shooting at a home in the 2800 block of East Linwood Street, where they reportedly found Thompson-Baugher with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a Springfield hospital, where he died Sunday from his injuries. 

Police say a juvenile was taken into custody on June 21 in connection with the shooting. That suspect taken to the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center in Springfield.

The Greene County Juvenile Office will make a determination about any criminal charges in connection with the shooting, according to the statement from the Springfield Police Department. The case marks the fourth homicide for 2024, including the fifth victim. 

The house where the shooting happened is near the corner of East Linwood and Meadow Avenue, near the southeastern edge of the Oak Grove Community Center property in Springfield's Oak Grove neighborhood.
