A Springfield man has been arrested and accused of threatening an elderly woman.
David Andrew Borneman, 59, has been charged with first degree harassment in connection to his treatment of a 93-year-old woman dealing with heart failure, according to documents filed in Greene County Circuit Court. Borneman was also charged with a parole violation in connection to a 2022 case.
According to a probable cause statement submitted by the Springfield Police Department, Borneman was arrested early Monday morning after a witness said they saw Borneman on Sunday night banging on the woman’s windows and threatening to burn down her house.
According to police, Borneman took the woman’s glasses from her, on July 4 and on July 5 he allegedly stole her car and disconnected phone lines inside the house. A police officer wrote that Borneman also moved the woman’s walker away from her, making it difficult for her to get help.

According to the probable cause statement, the woman on Sunday said Borneman was under the influence of the illicit drug methamphetamine and that she felt threatened by him.
Borneman was reportedly upset that the woman would not let him gather clothes from inside the home. A Springfield police officer wrote that during two visits to the home on Sunday, Borneman banged on windows and threatened to burn down the house. Officers reported that the living room of the house looked like objects had been thrown all over, and a bedroom door had holes punched in it.
Court records show Greene County prosecutors called Borneman a prior and persistent offender. In 2022, he was found to be in possession of illegal drugs. He also has guilty pleas for stealing in 2015 and for passing a bad check in 2013.
