According to court documents made available Monday, investigators believe the Marshfield woman charged with murdering Dan A. Myers, 51, of Springfield earlier this month did so by giving him a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Jessica L. McCammon, 42, is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, distribution of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.
Detectives asked for the public’s help last week in trying to locate Myers as he had been missing since late March. On Thursday, detectives located remains in a burned truck in a wooded area off North Farm Road 167 and believe they are Myers’ remains. The truck was confirmed to belong to Myers with the matching VIN.
According to the documents, Myers was first reported missing on March 25.
Myers’ white 2009 Chevrolet truck and blue Harley Davidson motorcycle were also reported missing.
Details of the investigation
A friend of Myers told investigators with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office that Myers was recently in a verbal confrontation with McCammon and another person in which Myers accused the two of stealing tools from his truck and that McCammon had stolen Myers’ truck in the past.
On April 6, detectives located McCammon and she agreed to be interviewed. At first, McCammon denied any knowledge of Myers’ whereabouts. She also told investigators there was a “long history of domestic violence between her and (Myers) that included drug use and physical abuse,” the document said.
In an interview, a witness told investigators that McCammon contacted him on April 3 needing help. The witness said McCammon admitted that she had overdosed Myers with fentanyl because Myers had been abusive to her, the document said. The witness said McCammon told him she had researched exactly how much fentanyl would be fatal.
The witness said he met McCammon at a gas station and McCammon rode with him to the location where Myers’ truck was parked on Kingsbury Street. Myers’ body was in the truck, the witness told investigators.
According to the documents, the witness said they drove the truck to a remote location north of Springfield on Farm Road 167 and set fire to the truck.
Investigators went to that location and located the truck with skeletal remains.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for McCammon’s cell phone. On that phone, investigators discovered a 35-minute video that is just sound with no visual picture.
According to the documents, Myers’ and McCammons’ voices can be heard talking about using narcotics. Around the 18-minute point, sounds of snorting and coughing can be heard.
At 27 minutes, McCammon can be heard making a “shhh” sound followed by a period of silence, the document said. For the next few minutes, sounds of what the investigator believes to be Myers moaning and “agonal breathing” can be heard.
“During this portion of the video where agonal breathing can be heard, Jessica makes no attempt to render aid or check on Dan’s well-being,” the Greene County Sheriff’s detective wrote in the probable cause statement.
McCammon is in Greene County Jail. She does not yet have an attorney, according to online court records.
