Here are my top picks for things to do this weekend. Not into these events? A longer list of things to do is available on the Daily Citizen’s Event Calendar.

BBQ Expert Sanctioned

If you are looking for a finger-licking good time, leaving you swaying to sweet and smokey tunes, The Ozark BBQ Festival may be for you.

Meat lovers will be happy to know The Kansas City Barbeque Society will be on hand to judge as more than a dozen slow-cookers face off for a $20,000 prize. A sampling of tri-tip, brisket, ribeyes and more starts at 1:30 p.m. with musical guests We Three Thieves, Bad Mojo and Paralandra rocking throughout the event.

This rain or shine shindig will be held at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. The event starts at 11 a.m., sampling starts at 1 p.m. and the final band gets going at 9 p.m. this Saturday.

Diggin’ it for Gia

Dig a little deeper this Earth Day and celebrate the soil that connects us at Finley Farms.

Start the day off by turning inward and participating in mindfulness Yoga overlooking the Finley River. Afterward, be sure to tour the farm, noting what looks good to grow. The farm features locally, organically grown veggies, flowers, herbs and fruits for sale. Finley Farms is offering a variety of nature-based workshops for the day, like Propagation 101 and DIY Terrariums. Additionally, there will be flower pots for little ones to paint.

This Saturday event at Finely Farms will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, April 24

Flap Jacks and Jills Invited

All-you-can-eat pancakes of all sizes, shapes, and flavors will be featured at GLO’s Pancake Social

This event aims to raise funds to expand the GLO Center's mission, to provide support, resources, education, and advocacy to the LGBTQIA community in the Ozarks. Organizers say the band, The Shandies, will provide the perfect Sunday morning sound during this pancake pow-wow. There will also be a cash bar with mimosas, various juices, and a 50/50 raffle.

The Pancake Social will be at the Glo Center’s headquarters from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
