Two Willard women are dead after a vehicle collision at a major intersection in northwest Springfield June 12.

Ronica Tollison, 37, and Brittany Toothman, 34, both of Willard, were pronounced dead at the scene of an accident at 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and West Bypass. According to the Springfield Police Department, they were traveling eastbound on Chestnut Expressway in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Tollison was the driver and Toothman was in a passenger seat.

They turned northbound onto West Bypass. Springfield police wrote a press release that an oncoming 2009 Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling “at a high rate of speed.” The trucks collided in the intersection.

Nick Maples, 22, of Clever was arrested at the scene of the accident. According to the police, Maples was driving the Ford F-350 pickup and “displayed indications of impairment.”

As of 8:45 a.m. Monday, records of Maples arrest and charges have not been filed through the Missouri 31st Judicial Circuit.

This was the eighth fatal motor vehicle accident in Springfield in 2022. The Springfield Police Department investigated 30 deaths involving motor vehicles in 2021, and 27 deaths involving motor vehicles in 2020.
