A 51-year-old Springfield woman died due to injuries sustained in a crash Saturday involving three vehicles.

The victim, Lana K. Reed, was a passenger in one of those vehicles. Her family has been notified.

According to a news release, Springfield police responded to the intersection of Grant Avenue and Lynn Street at 11:34 p.m. Saturday.

The initial investigation indicated a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling south on Grant when it entered the center turn lane to pass a 2014 Nissan Altima, the release said. The Monte Carlo then collided head-on with a northbound 2005 Volkswagen Touareg.

The impact between the Monte Carlo and the Touareg caused the vehicles to spin, and the Monte Carlo then collided with the Nissan, which ran off the roadway. The driver and two passengers from the Monte Carlo were transported by ambulance to the hospital, where one passenger later died.

The driver of the Monte Carlo was not arrested at that time as they were hospitalized for their injuries, the release said.

Officers with the department’s Traffic Section are continuing to investigate the circumstances involved in the crash and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.

This was the 10th fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2022.
