The Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit has completed the investigation of two suspicious deaths that happened earlier this year and determined them to be the result of a murder-suicide.
According to a release, officers were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 to the National Cemetery at 1702 E. Seminole St. following a 911 call regarding two deceased males at the cemetery with apparent gunshot wounds.
The deceased males were identified as Mark D. Young, 38, and Justin S. Baker, 46, from Springfield. The families of the victims were notified of their deaths and have been kept informed during the investigation.
The Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit has completed the investigation and determined these deaths to be the result of a murder-suicide.
A police spokesperson said the investigation is inconclusive at this time as to who was shot first and who died by suicide.
The Springfield Police Department is not seeking any suspects. There is no danger to the public and the case is now closed.
