Harmony House, Greene County’s only shelter for survivors of domestic violence, will soon have a new leader.
The nonprofit’s board of directors named Jared Alexander the new executive director starting Dec. 19. Alexander currently serves as Harmony House’s philanthropy director.
Lisa Farmer, who has served as executive director since 2014, announced her plans to retire in February.
Alexander has been with the organization for three years, first as the development director and most recently as the philanthropy director.
“Jared will bring additional leadership, energy and creativity to the organization’s programs along with a deep sense of commitment to our community and the mission of Harmony House,” Harmony House Board Chair Stacey James said in a news release. “We feel confident that Jared is exactly the person we need as we prepare for the retirement of Lisa Farmer.”
When Alexander assumes the role on December 19, he will manage all day-to-day operations for Harmony House as well as lead fundraising efforts to support the mission of the organization, the release said.
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the team at Harmony House as executive director,” Alexander said in the release. “This mission is critical to so many in our community, and I look forward to continuing to provide life-changing resources for survivors while moving our mission forward for the future of our community’s wellbeing.”
Alexander’s hiring comes at a time when the organization is increasing outreach efforts through prevention education and expansion into new areas, and working to establish an endowment fund to support the organization’s mission in the future.
Alexander, formerly with the Boy Scouts of America, has extensive management and development experience and is well positioned to move the organization forward, the release said.
“I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jared for the last three years and have seen firsthand his passion for our mission,” Farmer said. “Jared brings many strengths to his new role; he is very well regarded in the community; has solid nonprofit management experience; has a vision for the future and is a person of great integrity. I am confident that Harmony House will continue to thrive and be a solid community resource for years to come under his leadership. I’m very excited to pass the torch to him.”
