The spookiest symphony concert of the year returns this month — and it's free and family-friendly.

Join the Springfield Symphony Orchestra for its 14th Annual Spooky Symphony Oct. 28. The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts and the orchestra will be dressed up in costume for the occasion.

“One of my favorite Springfield Symphony concerts each year is our Spooky Symphony concert,” said Kyle Wiley Pickett, SSO music director and conductor. “I've heard from so many people in Springfield over the years that this was the first time they ever saw a live orchestra. We play fun, familiar music, and it’s great to see the recognition in kids’ eyes as we play music they know.”

The orchestra will play themes from “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” along with “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” “Ride of the Valkyries” and more.

Concert attendees are invited to wear Halloween costumes, participate in a costume parade and join in a social media costume contest for children. There will also be free ice cream sandwiches, provided by Hiland Dairy, and trick-or-treat opportunities from SSO sponsors and local businesses.

“I love seeing all the kids in their creative costumes as they march past the orchestra,” Pickett said.

Though the concert is free, tickets are required for entry with assigned seating. Doors open at 6 p.m. and seating begins at 6:30. To reserve your free tickets to Spooky Symphony visit the Springfield Symphony Orchestra website.
