This Sunday, the public is invited to take a first tour of the John Goodman Amphitheatre on the Missouri State University campus. Just a few days later, the venue’s namesake will be hosting an arena-sized event.

Goodman, the award-winning actor who graduated from MSU in 1975, is emceeing an event called The Celebration on Oct. 29. The event, which will be held at the Great Southern Bank Arena, coincides with MSU’s Homecoming 2022 weekend, and celebrates the Missouri State Foundation’s Onward, Upward campaign. The foundation raised over $32 million from over 19,000 donors in the most recent fiscal year, a record-setting total.

Along with Goodman, the free event will feature musical performances from Tori Kelly, the voice of Meena in the animated musicals “Sing” and “Sing 2.” The event will also include performances by the MSU grand chorus, MSU Pride Band and color guard, Kansas City-based band KC FLOW and other guests.

Doors to the arena open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. event. The first 2,500 people through the door can expect to get some MSU freebies.

The event follows Missouri State’s 2 p.m. Homecoming 2022 matchup with Western Illinois. To see a list of all events scheduled for the weekend, visit the Homecoming 2022 website.
