Park Central Square will be abuzz with holiday spirit Nov. 19 for the Mayor’s Tree Lighting Holiday Show.

The evening features live performances from local artists and the lighting of the tree, a 30-foot-tall spruce. Free activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, a holiday cookie station, rides on the SGF Holiday Express Train, “Selfies with Santa” and more.

The Mayor’s Commission on Children will also provide free copies of the book “'Twas the Night Before Christmas” during a reading on the square.

Here’s a timeline of the evening’s events

6 p.m. — Things get underway with a holiday storytime. Children are invited to join Mayor Ken McClure on stage at Park Central Square for a reading of “'Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Free books will be available while supplies last. Free horse-drawn carriage rides start at the southwest corner of Park Central Square

6:15 p.m. — Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at Park Central Square on the Holiday Express Train

6:20 p.m. — Live performances on the Park Central Square stage

6:30 p.m. — Santa Land opens on Park Central Square. Activities include “Selifes with Santa,” Holiday Express Train rides and a Jingle Bell Station

7 p.m. — The pre-recorded holiday television special, which will be broadcast on KY3, begins on the Park Central Square video screen

7:45 p.m. — Santa, Mrs. Claus and musical guests join the crew on stage for the countdown and official lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree

7:55 p.m. — The lighting of the tree

8-9 p.m. — Performances continue on the video board while guests enjoy Santa Land in Park Central Square

The night also includes free figure skating at Jordan Valley Ice Park, from 6-7 p.m., as well as free hot chocolate and candy canes.
