The Missouri College of Cosmetology, located at 3014 E. Sunshine in Springfield in suites G, H and J of the Southern Hills Shopping Center, closed its doors on March 13 after over 40 years in business.

The school was incorporated in June of 1982, according to the Missouri Secretary of State, although the college’s website says the college was founded in 1981 by Roddie Hughes.

According to its website, the college was accredited through the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences (NACCAS).

“In 1994, former student and licensed as a cosmetologist, barber, esthetician, and instructor Jeffery Stanley became Hughes’ partner, and today, he and his wife Melody are the full owners and operators of the college,” its website reads.

The “Missouri College of Cosmetology North” shares the same street address in the Missouri Division of Professional Registration, alongside the corporation name “RWH Inc,” which is the business registered with Jeffery Stanley on the Missouri Secretary of State’s website.

The for-profit college was briefly dissolved in 2008 after failing to comply with state statutes, but was reinstated in less than three months.

Their most recent registration was set to expire in October 2023.

Upon visiting the college, the Daily Citizen’s request for an interview from Stanley was denied.

The Missouri College of Cosmetology announced the closure in the evening on March 14 on their Facebook page:

“We are saddened to inform everyone that Missouri College of Cosmetology, Barber and Esthetics is permanently closed. We want to thank all of our customers, students, staff and friends for over 40 years of service to our community. Thank you so much for all you have done and God Bless you all in your future endeavors.”
