Robert Scherff, 84, of Springfield, has died from injuries suffered in an April 4 crash. It’s Springfield’s 11th motor vehicle crash fatality in 2023.

The Springfield Police Department responded to a single-vehicle accident at 6:30 p.m. that day, at Fort Avenue and Lindberg Street. A press release said a gold 1999 Buick Le Sabre, driven by Scherff, was southbound on Fort Avenue. As he approached Lindberg Street, he ran off the roadway and hit a light pole.

Scherff suffered critical injuries in the crash. He died April 13. The circumstances involved in the crash remain under investigation.
