Springfield police say a man shot and killed his 62-year-old mother before taking his own life.

Donna J. Spellmeier was found dead in her home on the 2100 block of S. Florence Avenue Tuesday afternoon after police were notified at 3:58 p.m. of possible gunshots fired at the residence. Her son, Keith Adam Spellmeier, 33, was also found dead inside the home.

Police believe Keith Spellmeier, of Harrison, Arkansas, shot and killed his mother before shooting himself. The Springfield Police Department is seeking additional information about the apparent murder-suicide. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 417-864-1818 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

The shooting death of Donna Spellmeier is Springfield’s fourth homicide investigation so far in 2023.
