Text from our SGF Sunday email newsletter, written by Reporter Rance Burger

Our most-read story this week was the Answer Man Steve Pokin’s column on State Sen. Mike Moon, R-Ash Grove. Yes, he has an Ash Grove mailing address, but that doesn’t mean he lives in Greene County. Pokin called the senator to delve into where his residence is in relation to lines on the Missouri Senate district map.

I’m going to brag on a couple of my colleagues, because they absolutely came to the newsroom and shoved all week long. First, reporter Jack McGee dissects a $500,000 COVID-19 economic relief grant that is part of a larger $2.4 million firing range project for Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott and his Distinguished Posse.

Second, reporter Cory Matteson introduced us to a man behind a beard, Springfield’s 2023 Teacher of the Year, he gave us the ins and outs of a pending tuition hike at Missouri State University, and he told us why Springfield Board of Education member Kelly Byrne held a Zoom meeting with some school staffers to hear more about hourly wages.

Speaking of getting in there and shoving: Adam Wainwright. The three-time Major League Baseball All-Star known to St. Louis Cardinals fans as “Uncle Charlie” was in Springfield Wednesday. Many of you probably went to Hammons Field to see Waino pitch. Whether you made it to the game or not, be sure you don’t miss Lyndal Scranton’s debrief with Wainwright about his Springfield stop on his 2023 retirement tour.

In Mike O’Brien’s latest Lives Remembered feature, we remember Beverly Wall. She put the head and the heart of a teacher into parenting, traveling, hiking, scrapbooking and sharing her passion for learning with those who knew her.
