Don’t forget to leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday for the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Letter carriers will pick up the bags to disperse food to nonprofit organizations including the Salvation Army and Ozarks Food Harvest, which will distribute the food to its network of community and faith-based charities.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the country’s largest single-day food drive and is a simple way to help those in need.

According to a press release from Ozarks Food Harvest, one in five children and one in six adults in the Ozarks are facing food insecurity.

Volunteers needed Saturday

The Salvation Army of Springfield needs volunteers to help sort and pack food on Saturday and then again next week. The food collected through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be for residents of Greene and Christian Counties.

The Salvation Army is located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway.

Volunteers will be sorting 1:30-6 p.m. Saturday. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or other adult in the household.

Volunteers can help out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday of next week.
