The word “forward” popped up throughout Springfield Mayor Ken McClure’s State of the City address June 1. McClure admitted disagreements over some issues Springfieldians face can make conflicts seem “so divisive that our lights have dimmed.” McClure emphasized forward thinking throughout the speech, and it will require a certain degree of togetherness. Jack McGee breaks down some of the most important parts of the speech, including some projects and spaces where Springfield seems to be thinking ahead.

The lights will be on for filmmakers at the Gillioz Theatre tonight in downtown Springfield. The organizers of the SATO48 film competition host the “Oscars of the Ozarks.” Carly Randles explains the salute to the best and most entertaining films produced in just a 48-hour time span. Having had a small role in a SATO48 film once myself, I can tell you it’s very fun and very intense. The people who walk out of the Gillioz with awards tonight will have definitely earned them.

There is another screening downtown today at the Historic Fox Theatre. “Generations: African American Experiences in Springfield and the Ozarks,” is an Ozarks Public Television documentary that debuts today. Katie Taranto interviewed producer Dax Bedell about this highly important and insightful film. If you can’t make it to the Fox this afternoon, “Generations” debuts on OPT, the Springfield PBS affiliate, Thursday, June 15, at 8 p.m.
