Text from our SGF Sunday email newsletter, written by Reporter Rance Burger

Our most read story of the week was actually published May 27, but that didn’t stop people of Springfield and seemingly the rest of the nation from taking interest in the Hells Angels clubhouse on West Avenue for sale. Reporter Joe Hadsall spoke to the real estate agent listing the property, and describes its connection to the 1-percenter motorcycle club and a professional baseball club many of us aren’t very fond of — the Chicago Cubs.

There will be some engines running this summer, not motorcycle engines, but lawn mower engines. University of Missouri Extension’s David Burton shares the story of the 50-yard Challenge. It’s not a dumb or dangerous stunt the kids are pulling on TikTok. It’s a movement that encourages kids 8-17 to do something to help someone else: cut the grass.

Our newest Lives Remembered feature is the story of Kennedy Aurentz, who was just 22 when she died May 20. Mike O’Brien shares how Aurentz cared deeply for her friends and family members. Aurentz could easily recognize when someone else was troubled, and that’s because feeling troubled was something she knew too well. For those who knew her, Kennedy Aurentz was much more than a mental health condition. She was a person who comforted others in distress because she cared.
