Six residents of Southwest Missouri were indicted by a grand jury on June 28 for their role in a conspiracy to distribute meth, among other charges.

The indictment became public on July 5, following the arrests and initial court appearance of the following defendants: Robert Jason Smith, 47, Terry M. Schenks, 53, Randy L. Johns, 45, and Jill M. Matthews, 45, all of Ozark; Michael R. Goodwin, 41, of Springfield; and Evelyn J. Dame, 48, of Lebanon.

The federal indictment alleges their participation in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Greene and Christian counties from Dec. 16, 2020 to June 2, 2022, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Missouri.

In addition to the drug-trafficking conspiracy, the following charges, which are simply accusations, have been filed against each respective defendant, according to the release:

  • Michael R. Goodwin
    • Two counts of possessing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute
    • Three counts of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, one count of possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute
    • One count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime
    • Three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm
  • Terry M. Schenks
    • One count of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine to distribute
    • One count of distributing methamphetamine
    • One count of being a felon in possession of firearms
  • Robert Jason Smith
    • One count of distributing methamphetamine
    • One count of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute
    • One count of being a felon in possession of ammunition
  • Evelyn J. Dame
    • One count of possessing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute
  • Randy L. Johns and Jill M. Matthews (charged together)
    • One count of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute

A federal trial jury will determine the innocence or guilt of the defendants of the case prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica R. Eatmon. It was investigated by the Springfield Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the DEA and the ATF.
