A Springfield teenager died early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on State Route D two miles north of Rogersville.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol’s crash report, the 17-year-old who was not named was an occupant in a 2020 BMW X3 SUV driven by Benjamin Sugg, 18, of Springfield.

The eastbound BMW went off the roadway near Greene County Farm Road 253 and overturned around 2 a.m.

The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family has been notified.

Another occupant, 18-year-old Jacob Zimmerman of Rogersville, was transported by private vehicle to a Springfield hospital with minor injuries.

Sugg, the driver, is in Greene County Jail awaiting charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

This is Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D’s 73rd fatality for 2023.
