A pedestrian was killed on West Chestnut Expressway near 1-44 after being struck by a vehicle the morning of Nov. 8.

James Hamilton, 47, of Springfield, was struck at about 6 a.m. by a 2018 Dodge Ram being driven by Samuel Mouton, 25, of Springfield, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Hamilton reportedly stepped into the road on the western side of the intersection of Chestnut and Broadview Place, according to GPS coordinates from the report, where he was struck by the westbound truck. Hamilton was taken to Mercy Springfield, where he was pronounced dead. 

The driver was reportedly not injured and was not given any citations at the time of the response, according to the report. 

This is the 124th fatality crash in 2023 for Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D, which includes 17 counties in southwest Missouri.
