Police are investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a Springfield man and the injury of a woman, and seeking the suspected shooter. 

UPDATE: Police arrested a person suspected of shooting a 26-year-old Springfield man to death. More information will be available when charges have been filed.

Springfield Police Department officers responded at 8:18 p.m. Tuesday to a report of gunshots fired from vehicles at Grant Avenue and College Street, according to a press release from the department.

At the intersection of College and Campbell streets, officers located a vehicle driven by Chaviz Nguyen, 26, of Springfield. Nguyen and an unidentified female passenger had been wounded by gunshots.

Nguyen died at the scene as emergency responders attempted to resuscitate him, according to the report. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene in their vehicle immediately after the shooting, according to the report, and has not been located. Police continue to investigate the shooting, and ask anyone with information about it to contact the department at 417-864-1810. The shooting marks the Springfield Police Department's 17th homicide investigation of 2023.
