Update: A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspect in this case, according to the GCSO Facebook page.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding those responsible for a “heinous and disgusting act against an innocent and defenseless creature” — a 1-year-old Blue Healer mix found with burns to her body and zip ties around her legs Jan. 11.

A passerby found the dog tied up near Fellows Lake and took her to a veterinarian’s office, where the dog later died.

“She fought hard all day. Despite the best efforts of the hero citizen who found her and took immediate lifesaving action, and the caring treatment by the veterinary team, she passed away (Thursday) evening,” a staff member wrote on the sheriff's office Facebook page, sharing a photo of the burned dog.

The dog was found in the 6500 block of North Farm Road 197, on the northeastern edge of Fellows Lake between Springfield and Fair Grove.

“The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is devoted to bringing justice to those responsible for this heinous and disgusting act against an innocent and defenseless creature,” the deputy wrote. “We need the public’s assistance to solve this unspeakable crime. Please share this post and the photos until someone recognizes this dog and provides the information our deputies need.”

Again, if you have any information regarding this vile act of cruelty, please contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 417-829-6230.”
