The executive director of the Moxie Cinema is stepping down after more than a 13 years spent at the helm of downtown Springfield's only independent movie theater, according to a company press release.

Mike Stevens, who became Moxie's executive director in 2010 after a newly formed nonprofit purchased the cinema from founders Dan and Nicole Chilton, is stepping down in spring 2024, according to the press release. The Moxie Cinema, located at 305 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. 101, has begun the hiring process for the new director, with applications open as of Jan. 17.

“I will be around to make sure the transition goes smoothly, but I am very excited to see what a new leader will have in store for my favorite movie theater in the world,” Stevens said.

“It has been the best job in the world, but I am ready for a new challenge.”

The cinema's volunteer board of directors is accepting applications. Interested candidates can send a resume and cover letter to Board President Stephanie Stenger at
info@moxiecinema.com. The deadline for first consideration applicants is Jan. 31.

“We’re looking for an energetic, adaptable movie lover to take the Moxie into the future,” Stenger said in the press release.
