An inmate at the Greene County Jail died early Monday morning in his cell. No foul play is suspected, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

A detention officer found Michael Hill, 49, unresponsive in his cell at 1:26 a.m. during cell checks on Jan. 22, according to the press release.

The detention officer went into the cell to provide medical aid and started performing CPR while also requesting additional staff to respond, according to the press release.

Additional officers and jail medical staff arrived and continued CPR. CoxHealth emergency responders arrived, and Hill was pronounced dead at 2:08 a.m.

Hill's death is under investigation; an autopsy is scheduled at the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hill had been in jail since Jan. 4. He was charged with domestic assault in the second degree and also was held for a probation violation per the terms of a prior conviction.
