An 18-year-old riding a motorcycle died at the scene of an accident in Springfield Monday, March 11, when the driver of a car reportedly turned into his path.

Edward Smith, 18, of Springfield, was killed while driving a 2011 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Glenstone Avenue when a blue 2019 Hyundai Elantra turned from northbound Glenstone into Smith’s path, according to a press release from Springfield police.

The vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Glenstone, just north of Kearney Street, at about 6:14 p.m. The car was driven by 60-year-old Kim Burbaugh, of Flemington, which is in Polk County.

The crash is under investigation. This was Springfield’s third fatal motor vehicle crash in 2024.
