The Salvation Army in Springfield welcomed its new leaders, Amos and Cyndi Shiels. The Shiels arrived in Springfield in early July and have been busy meeting staff, volunteers and church members as well as learning about Springfield's programs and services.

According to a news release, the Shiels have been co-pastors and co-administrators with different Salvation Army locations since 2001, including Granite City, Illinois; Jacksonville, Illinois; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Holland, Michigan.

They served as divisional youth and candidate secretaries at the Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters in Kansas City and in the greater metropolitan area of Chicago, the release said.

Amos and Cyndi Shiels both have bachelor’s degrees in practical ministries from Olivet Nazarene University. Amos Shiels is working to complete his master's in leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary. Cyndi Shiels has a master’s in theological studies from Asbury Theological Seminary.

The Springfield Salvation Army's former leaders, Jon and Kris Augenstein, announced their retirements in June. The Augensteins served the Salvation Army for 28 years with their last three serving at the Springfield location.
