Springfield police are searching for the person or persons who shot two Springfield men dead in a parking lot in downtown Springfield on Saturday, May 14.
Malik Sutton, 23, and Kylon McAfee, 20, were confirmed to have been shot to death in a statement that the Springfield Police Department put out May 14.
The shooting happened sometime after 1 o’clock in the morning at a parking lot at 313 North Boonville Avenue, on the west side of Boonville between West Olive Street and West Water Street, and about a block north of Park Central Square.
Police were called at 1:48 a.m. to investigate the shooting. When they arrived, they found one of the men dead at the scene. Another was taken to a hospital for treatment and died at the hospital. A third victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of what police described as a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound,” and was treated at the hospital.
Police did not specify the type of weapon or the type or types of ammunition used in the shooting.

Sutton and McAfee are the fifth and sixth persons to die by homicide in Springfield in 2022. There were 19 homicides in Springfield in 2021, and 23 homicides in 2020, according to the police department’s annual report for 2021.
