A Battlefield man is in the Greene County Jail and charged with threatening to shoot his wife and “shoot up” the day care where she works.

As a result of those alleged threats, the Building Blocks Learning Center in Battlefield closed for two days in late March 2024.

Anthony Tonny Vance, 63, was arrested on May 15, 2024, and charged with the class E felony of second-degree terrorist threat.

According to the probable cause statement filed by a Battlefield police officer, Vance allegedly came to an acquaintance’s home around 7:20 p.m. March 24. He was reportedly drinking beer and placed a revolver on the kitchen table.

Vance allegedly said he was going to shoot his wife and the day care where she worked.

Police were unable to locate Vance at that time, but reached out to the owner of the day care to alert them of the alleged threat.

The day care’s owner reported there were 92 children from 90 different families who rely on the center for daycare services.

Out of concern for the safety of children and staff, the owner of Building Blocks Learning Center decided to close the day care on March 25-26.

According to the probable cause statement, Vance later asked an acquaintance to hide two revolvers, an AK-47 rifle, a semiautomatic pistol and another firearm. The acquaintance did not take the firearms from Vance.

Vance does not yet have an attorney and bond is set at $10,000, according to online court records.

If convicted of the class E felony, Vance faces a sentence of up to four years in prison.
