A detention officer with the Greene County Sheriff's Office is now sitting in the Greene County jail, charged with multiple counts of sexual misconduct for allegedly attempting to have sexual contact with an inmate.

Alejandro Lopez, 20, is charged with two counts of attempted sexual conduct in the course of public duty, first-degree sexual misconduct, two charges of second-degree sexual misconduct and two charges of fourth-degree assault — all misdemeanor charges.

According to court documents, an inmate within the jail called the Greene County Jail PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Hotline and reported that an officer “showed me his penis and asked me to play with it …”

The inmate, who is referred to as Victim I in the documents, reported the officer asked her to do other explicit acts and grabbed the inmate while she was in the shower.

An investigator with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the victim while she was still incarcerated. According to the documents, the victim disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted several times over two days by Lopez.

The victim also said that on Oct. 17, she heard another female screaming at Lopez, saying Lopez was staring at that female while she was showering. The victim said she didn’t know the identity of the other female.

Lopez was interviewed on Oct. 18. According to the court documents, Lopez said he thought they were going to talk about a female inmate that had accused him of staring at her while she was in the shower. Lopez gave the name of that inmate and it was someone other than the victim who already spoke with investigators.

According to the documents, Lopez admitted exposing himself to the first victim, viewing her in the shower and touching her while she was in the shower. The documents say he also admitted to pinching a third victim’s buttocks.

According to the documents, Lopez had been employed at the jail as a detention officer for a year.

According to a release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Jim Arnott personally arrested Lopez.

“This office serves the citizens with a high standard of integrity, professionalism, and dedication,” Arnott wrote in the release. “Instances like these will not be tolerated.’”

According to online court records, Alejandro does not yet have an attorney.

Bond was set at $20,000.
