A Springfield man has been arrested for his alleged role in the shooting death of 22-year-old Jason Walker June 15.

Peyton Lafferty, 18, was arrested on Friday and booked into Greene County jail. Lafferty is charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action, according to the jail website. 

According to a release from the Springfield Police Department, officers responded at 11:23 p.m. Thursday to the reports of shots fired and someone who had been shot at the 3400 block of  S. Virginia. 

Officers found the victim, Walker, with gunshot wounds. Walker was transported to a Springfield hospital.

Walker later died from his injuries at the hospital. Walker’s family was notified.

This is the Springfield Police Department’s eighth homicide investigation in 2023.
