Christopher Coburn, 51, died after a single-car crash Thursday evening in the area of Republic Road and National.

Springfield Police say Coburn, of Springfield, was driving a red 2000 Chevrolet Suburban and was westbound on Republic Road when the accident occurred.

“The vehicle swerved to the left and ran off the south side of the street,” a press release said. “The vehicle struck a culvert constructed of landscaping blocks and came to rest.”

Coburn was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries. His family has been notified.

An investigation into the circumstances involved in the crash is ongoing. The Springfield Police Department asks anyone with information about the crash to contact them. This is the seventh fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2023.
