A Springfield man died in a motorcycle accident near Lake Springfield on June 25.

Trenton Williamson, 22, died after crashing a motorcycle into a ravine off of Kissick Avenue and Lake Ridge Street, just north of the dam at Lake Springfield on a Saturday afternoon. According to a statement from the Springfield Police Department, Williamson was riding northbound from the dam, lost control, and drove off the road and into a ravine.

Williamson was taken by ambulance to a Springfield hospital but reportedly died of the injuries he suffered in the accident. The accident occurred just before 5:12 p.m.

The police do not believe Williamson was impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident, and officers are continuing to investigate the events surrounding the accident.

Williamson was riding a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle of a size unspecified in the police statement. The report does not mention whether or not Williams was wearing a helmet or other safety equipment.
