A person from Springfield died in a house fire at around 2 a.m. Jan. 30, in the 2500 block of North East Avenue. Emergency responders have not yet confirmed the person's identity.

The Greene County medical examiner is working with the investigating fire marshal and Springfield police to identify the victim and provide additional information.

Springfield firefighters responded and found a single person inside the house, according to a fire department press release.

The person was removed from the blaze and firefighters attempted life-saving measures, but the person died.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation by the Springfield Fire Department.
