A pedestrian hit by a vehicle in the area of Madison Street and Holland Avenue Saturday night has died.

According to a news release, officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle near the Missouri State University campus at 10:37 p.m. Saturday night.

Edward Carnell, 57, of Springfield, was found in the roadway with trauma to his head and body.

The vehicle left the scene of the accident, the release said.

Carnell was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His family has been notified.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle, but it was unoccupied, the release said. The investigation is ongoing and the Springfield Police Department is still seeking the driver. Anyone with information about this incident should call 417-864-1810.

This was the 13th traffic fatality in Springfield in 2022.
