A 24-year-old woman from Odessa, Texas died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while she was walking in the center turn lane of Chestnut Expressway.

According to a release, Springfield Police Department responded to a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle on the 4100 block.

Rebecca Cary was walking westbound in the center turn lane of Chestnut Expressway, just west of Orchard Crest around 10:35 p.m. Saturday night, when she was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Tommy Arcudia, 59, of Springfield.

The Tahoe was westbound in the center turn lane when it hit Cary. Cary was transported to the hospital where she died, the release said.

Cary's family has been notified.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash, the release said.

The Springfield Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances involved in the crash. Anyone with information about this incident can call the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.

This incident is the 13th  fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2022. 

In the last three years citywide, there have been 17 incidents involving 18 pedestrians who have died and a total of 292 incidents of pedestrians being injured in crashes, according to a police spokesperson.
