A 27-year-old Springfield man died early Nov. 10 in a single-vehicle crash while driving east on Trafficway Street near Hammons Field. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to A Springfield hospital with what police describe as serious injuries.
Luis Ocampo Venegas was driving a white 2021 Ram 1500 truck at about 1:49 a.m. when he lost control, ran off the north side of the road and hit a tree, according to Springfield police.
He died at the scene.
The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
According to the Springfield Police Department, this was Springfield’s 24th fatal motor vehicle crash in 2023.
