A 62-year-old Springfield man was indicted Tuesday and charged with illegal possession of a firearm as well as possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it.

Timothy S. Brandkamp’s prior convictions led federal prosecutors to charge him as an armed career offender, meaning he will face a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted. A federal grand jury indicted Brandkamp on the two counts, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the press release, Brandkamp is accused of being in possession of a 9mm pistol and about a dozen rounds of ammunition on Oct. 14 and Oct. 20. On those dates, he is also alleged to have been in possession of methamphetamine.

Brandkamp has prior felony convictions linked to selling meth. He served 13 years in federal prison after being convicted of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and also has two prior felony convictions for selling methamphetamine and another for possession of meth, sale of an imitation controlled substance and assault.
