Springfield police are in search of a suspect connected to a shooting death that happened about 2 a.m. on May 3.

Police found the victim, Jimmie E. Johnson III, 42, lying in the backyard of 2304 N. National Ave. after officers were called to the house on a report that someone had been shot.

Johnson had been shot once, according to a Springfield Police Department news release. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police on Wednesday afternoon had not yet identified a suspect in Johnson’s death. Detectives continue to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with information to call 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477), or online at p3tips.com

Johnson’s shooting death is the fifth homicide investigation in Springfield so far this year.
