A 2-year-old boy died Sunday morning after he was struck by a vehicle on private property off of Blackman Road one mile east of Springfield. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Cory B. Stapp, 43, was driving  a 2014 Dodge Caravan westbound and struck the child at 9:53 a.m. Sunday. The child was not named in the report.

The child was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m. at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Stapp is in Greene County jail and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office website. Online court records show Stapp has prior criminal convictions for forgery and one misdemeanor conviction for careless and imprudent driving in 2014.
