Two Springfield residents died Saturday night due to injuries from motorcycle-vehicle crash near National Avenue and Pythian Street.

According to a statement from the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to the two-vehicle crash at 7:47 p.m.

Sierra Lane, 21, of Springfield, was driving a silver 2012 Nissan Altima northbound on National and made a left turn to go west on Pythian. The Nissan was struck by a southbound green 2023 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle driven by Caleb I. Watts, 19, of Springfield. Lane was transported to the hospital for treatment of what police reported as moderate injuries.

Watts was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

A passenger in the front seat of the Nissan, Laura Lane, 50, of Springfield, was pronounced dead on scene.

According to the release from the police department, the circumstances of the crash are under investigation. Anyone with any information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Springfield Police Department. 

This was the 20th fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2023.
