Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller, a Republican, is set to run for Missouri Secretary of State in 2024, according to a filing with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

Schoeller’s Statement of Committee Organization was updated on Thursday, Feb. 9, showing his plan to run for the statewide office.

Schoeller has been the Greene County Clerk since being first elected in 2014, two years after he lost a Secretary of State bid in the general election to Democrat Jason Kander. Schoeller was reelected in 2022.

Before that, Schoeller, a Branson native, served as the executive director of the Missouri Republican Party and in the Missouri State house of Representatives for three terms, in addition to working under the likes of John Ashcroft, Roy Blunt and Matt Blunt during their times as senator, congressman, and secretary of state, respectively.

Although Schoeller has yet to make a declaration of his candidacy, he is slated to make a “special announcement” at 6 p.m. today, Feb. 10, the first day of the State Lincoln Days taking place in Springfield.

Multiple attempts to reach out to Schoeller for comment have been unsuccessful.

Schoeller will be joined by Republicans from around the state — and some from around the country — at the annual event, where other candidacy announcements could be made.
