The North Springfield Betterment Association helps north Springfield through community projects, outreach programs and through partnerships with Springfield Public Schools.
On June 8, the NSBA will give out six awards to the businesses and individuals who, “encourage and promote worthwhile and honorable endeavors that will make north Springfield a better place in which to work and live.”
Four of the awards that will be presented include the Heritage Award, Civic Contributor Award, Distinguished Contributor Award, and the Lifetime Dedication Award.
The Heritage Award goes to a business that operates in the north side and is at least 75 years old. This award will be presented to Great Southern Bank.
The Civic Contributor Award goes to a person or organization who gives themselves to their community. This award will be presented to the O’Reilly Center for Hope. The O’Reilly Center for Hope serves a hub of resources for persons experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. Eighteen different organizations operate and serve under one roof.
The Distinguished Contributor Award goes to a person or organization who has given a significant amount of time and effort to make a difference toward the betterment of north Springfield. This award will be presented to Dr. Rob Kroll, the principal of Hillcrest High School.
The Lifetime Dedication Award goes to a person who has made significant contributions of time to the NSBA. This award will be presented to Terry Allcorn, the secretary of NSBA who has completed 23 years of service.
These North Springfield Betterment Association awards will be presented at the Doubletree Hotel at 2431 North Glenstone Avenue in Springfield. This is a luncheon ceremony that is open to the public on June 8. The lunch will begin at 11:40 a.m. and the program is from noon to 1 p.m. Non-member tickets cost $20, and this includes lunch.
