After 24 years with the City of Springfield, City Attorney Rhonda Lewsader is ready to retire. Lewsader has announced she will step down at the end of 2023.

“Rhonda has done a superb job in a very fast-paced, often challenging environment,” said City Manager Jason Gage. “She led us through the COVID-19 pandemic, was instrumental in reaching an agreement for the purchase of Hammons Field and has provided guidance on numerous topics that have helped Springfield grow and thrive. We will miss her.”

Lewsader worked as a municipal prosecutor for 13 years, was the legal counsel for the Springfield-Branson National Airport and advised several city departments before becoming Deputy City Attorney. She took over as city attorney in 2019.

According to a City of Springfield press release, Lewsader said she is “proudest of getting to lead and work alongside an outstanding group of attorneys and legal staff.”

She led a 20-employee department that represents the City of Springfield and City Council in all legal matters.

The city plans to begin the search for Lewsader’s replacement in the coming weeks.
